The study of Martial Arts at The Institute of Self Defense will not only provide you with an exciting and intriguing approach to attain physical and mental growth and advancement, but also, it will teach you the practical principles and skills needed for effective self defense.
At ISD, self defense is mastered through a relaxed study of two types of martial arts, Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido, both seemingly completely different in structure, delivery and use, yet both complimentary as "two sides of the same coin."
Whether part of our adult class or our youth class, each student receives personalized instruction in comfortably sized classes in accordance with simplified and flexible class schedules.
Through our proven branded teaching process, ISD students come to understand the interdependent nature of Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. They learn how to utilize the techniques and lessons of each for self defense interchangeably, and in a flowing manner, as needed.
With practice, technique becomes movement, movement becomes understanding, and understanding an authentic extension of the self, as with the beauty and delicacy of "moonbeams dancing on water" and the ease of a "gently flowing brook.
TAE KWON DO AND HAPKIDO
Tae Kwon Do is characterized by powerful, linear, discrete, stop - start movement. Also referred to as Korean Karate, it is well known for its ability to develop strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. The result is the development of great posture, graceful movement, excellent coordination and attention to detail.
Hapkido is known for its flowing, circular, dance - like action. As taught at ISD, a great emphasis is placed on precise relaxed yet supple posture during free flowing movement.
Tae Kwon Do provides the focused power, techniques, and confidence needed to manage challenging and threatening situations.
Hapkido is highly effective for self defense as it offers the student the ability to deal with a wide variety of scenarios, whether involving one or many individuals, and to deliver "neutralizing techniques", regardless of the size of those confronted, through subtle, graceful, yet powerful movements.
The benefits that students receive through training at The Institute of Self Defense are many and practical, and the classes are enjoyable, intriguing, highly informative and powerfully instructional.
The Institute of Self Defense is a different type of school, one that offers a complete study of the Martial Arts for the development of the whole person, not just for mastering self defense skills.
Specifically, students are given a solid applied understanding of the strategies, tactics and techniques that are required for effective self defense and for meeting their needs and challenges of everyday life.
They are guided toward attaining an understanding and working capacity for patiently and calmly managing challenges and difficulties with a sense of firm resolve.
The ultimate rewards of participation in ISD's program are a healthy mind and body, a strong ability for self defense, and the confidence to deal with life's pressures in a positive manner.
